TopTenREVIEWS - Silver Award - Awarded for excellence in design, useability and feature set

The Beats by Dr. Dre line of on-ear headphones was designed by Dr. Dre, the legendary music producer, audio engineer and rapper. His philosophy behind this line of headphones was to create a product that could reproduce the same level of detail and dynamics you would hear if you were sitting in the studio when the music was recorded.

The Studio headphones are the only pair of noise-canceling headphones in the Beats collection. They have comfortable earpads and active noise-cancellation technology to help you get the most out of your music. Studio Beats by Dr. Dre are by far the most stylish noise-canceling headphones on the market. They come in several sleek shades, including black, white and red. Although they are quite expensive, we gave these headphones the TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award because of their incredible sound quality, stylish design and ease of use.

When you use these headphones for the first time, it's as if you're hearing your music for the first time. You can suddenly feel the pulsing bass and hear each precise detail as you've never heard it before. Using these noise-canceling headphones makes you appreciate the minute details in music as well as the care that goes into performing and mixing that music.

Studio Beats have a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. This is the full range of sound frequencies the human ear can hear Between the active noise cancellation and the comfortable earpads, you can easily pick out harmonies and individual instruments you may not have noticed in the music before. The bass is loud and mixes well with other musical sounds, blending your familiar music into something that sounds almost new.

These headphones have a sensitivity of 108 dB. This means that they can play at high volumes without background static or hissing. There is no passive play mode, so when the battery runs out, the headphones stop playing music. This is inconvenient if the battery dies in the middle of a long flight or drive.

We tested the Studio Beats headset with a playlist of different songs and found that they improve the sound quality of not just bass-heavy songs, but every genre of music. Whether you’re listening to the latest hip-hop or a Beethoven symphony, you won’t be disappointed. Listening to music with noise-canceling headphones brings out background vocals, hidden rhythms, and the sounds of instruments you may have never noticed before. These headphones seem to be best-suited to playing rap and hip-hop music, especially if you enjoy heavy bass in your songs.

These headphones come in several different colors, but they all have a stylish design. The first thing we noticed about these headphones was their glossy look. It is eye-catching, but prone to smudges. Thankfully, the headset comes with a cloth for wiping the headphones down.

This headset has an adjustable headband and swiveling ear cups, so you can adjust it to fit comfortably. The Studio Beats headphones are quite bulky and heavy, weighing over 9 ounces. However, they have a collapsible design that allows them to fold up and fit in a carrying case. The carrying case is small enough to fit in a bag, which makes this headset perfect for travel.

There is a mute button on the right earcup that, if pressed, will mute the sound and stop the noise cancellation as you hold it down. This is convenient when listening to someone speak or tuning into your surroundings.

The Studio Beats by Dr. Dre headset comes with a 4.26-foot long connector cable with a standard 3.5 mm connector. It also includes a Monster iSoniTalk cable, which allows you to connect simultaneously to the headphones, an iPhone and the microphone in order to take and make phone calls. There are also two adapters: a two-pronged adapter and a ¼-inch adapter. Both adapters allow you to plug the headphones into a more powerful audio source such as a jack on an airplane. A carrying case and cleaning cloth are also included with the headphones.

These headphones require two AAA batteries. Unfortunately, because there is no passive play mode, once the batteries die the headphones stop playing music altogether. To prevent having to be without music during your travels, we recommend carrying extra batteries in the case.

Summary:

The Beats collection of headphones are all top-quality, but we really appreciate the Studio headset. The noise-cancellation technology is extremely effective and the headset itself is comfortable and durable. Besides being useful and reliable headphones, they are also a nice-looking piece of eye candy. Studio Beats by Dr. Dre are some of the best noise-canceling headphones we reviewed, and although we wish they included a passive play option, we still highly recommend them.
